The challenge:
The client required a sub base to be placed under permeable block paving, for a new car park.
The solution:
After watching the Topmix Permeable video on Tarmac's website, JB Developments decided the system was the ideal solution for their project. Topmix Permeable is a fast draining concrete pavement solution that rapidly directs stormwater off streets, parking surfaces, driveways and walkways.
The main supply delivered from Tarmac's dedicated readymix plant in Enfield. Prior to this job the Enfield team had never produced the specialist solution, so they completed mix design trials to prepare for the pour. Following the successful completion of the trials the next challenge was quality and logistics. Supply assurance needed to be guaranteed to ensure consistent product delivery.
After extensive client liaison and product testing the pour began. Senior technicians were on hand throughout the pour, to provide contractor support.
The results
On the first day, the client had originally ordered 24m3 but because it was so easy to place they ordered a further 40m3, supplied and installed on the same day. This meant that the project gained valuable programme time, increasing productivity.
